Under 11 (U11) - U11-B

Coaches Letter

Welcome to the 2022-2023 hockey season. My name is Joe Schut and I am very excited and privileged to have been selected as the Head Coach for the Carleton Place Cyclones U11 Competitive Hockey Team.

I would like to encourage all players within the CPGHA area to attend the upcoming tryouts. If your player has an interest in playing at the competitive level, do not hesitate, as the coaching staff will ensure this year will be fun and challenging for all.

The coaching philosophy for this year will gear towards Personal Development as well as Team Development. We will focus on the ability to adapt in specific situations, learn to recognize and react accordingly to the play at hand, and enhance the on-ice awareness of all players.

Hockey is truly a fun game. When all players collectively encourage each other, through thick and thin, good and bad, it creates an effective and positive team atmosphere. I believe that success is the ability to move from one failure to the next without the loss of enthusiasm. Players require an environment of structure, discipline/self-discipline, and strong encouragement throughout the process.

From the start of the tryouts, the players will be evaluated from the moment they arrive to the rink, to the moment they leave from the rink. On-ice and off-ice attitude, behavior, and respect values will be a consideration in making the Carleton Place Cyclones U11 Competitive hockey team. Players should be able to show commitment and desire to learn, be coachable, and be able to trust the process. This will lead to the overall success of the hockey season.

Expectations from families:

  • Ice time may range anywhere from 2 to 4 ice times per week.
  • On top of the CPGHA registration fee, there will be a Team fee of $350.  This will go towards tournament fees, team supplies/team wear, and team functions throughout the year.
  • Players are to prioritize during the season by balancing responsibilities to ensure attendance. School, homework, and family are the essentials in these players’ lives. The coaching staff is available to help in any way to understand how to prioritize.
  • Parents will be expected to volunteer/contribute to the team through fundraising and reaching out for sponsorship. Supporting the team in all efforts will ensure the players to have the best experience possible.
  • Tournaments! We will be participating in 4 tournaments for the season: 2 home tournaments, and 2 away tournaments. Passports will be required!

Tournaments for this season.

North Bay - Nov 4-6
Kanata Girls Competitive Tournament - Ottawa, Ontario - November 18 - 20, 2022
Nepean Wildcats Paint It Purple - Ottawa, Ontario - January 27 - 29, 2023

Gene Harrington Falls Classic - Niagara Falls, NY - February 24 - 26, 2023 **PASSPORTS REQUIRED**

I sincerely wish all players and their families the best of luck in the upcoming tryouts in September and I am looking forward to the start of the season.

Yours in hockey,

Joe Schut
