Storm Watch: 6th Edition
The Cats came back, but the gap was too wide to catch the surging storm that the U13 C Cyclones brought to the Carleton Place Arena on Tuesday night. Scoring started midway through the first period when Daria Sullivan jumped on a rebound and put her team up 1-0 over the rival Nepean Wild Cats. Shae Chalmers and Katie Chase got the helpers in a chaotic play in the frying pan. The Cyclones' coaching staff has been emphasizing the importance of jumping on rebounds and the girls are obviously taking note. Shae Chalmers added a goal less than a minute later, with Katie Chase and Daria Sullivan providing the helpers. This put the Cyclones up 2-0. The Wildcats would soon cut the lead in half, but Shae Chalmers added her second of the night to bring the lead back to two. Assist went to Ella Anderson and Chloee Carmody.
Clara Salter would find the back of the net near the end of the second period with a beautiful low corner shot, boosting the lead to 3 goals. Not being done there, Clara would add another before the period ended, assisted by Chloee Carmody and Mila Straznicky. The 4-goal lead was short-lived, however, as the Wild Cats got a late goal to end the period. At 5-2 the game was not over. The Wild Cats were finding their momentum. If not for some timely saves by steadfast netminder Josie Halayko the score could have looked a lot different going into the third.
The theme of the third period was "get pucks to the net!" Not everything immediately went to plan. Tensions rose as the Wild Cats added another goal late in the third, closing the lead to 5-3. Daria Sullivan responded with another rebound goal, that looked like a carbon copy of what she scored in the first. Clara Salter had the helper. Shaelin Chalmers completed her hat trick soon after and put the Cyclones up 7-3. Lila Faris got the assist on the final Cyclones goal of the game. The Wild Cats would add another with 6 seconds left, but the damage was done. The Cyclones walked away with a 7-4 victory.
There were a lot of questions about the Cyclones' play over the previous weekend. The Glengarry game left a sour taste. But here at home, the Cyclones were the juggernaut that they have proven themselves to be. They jumped on pucks, got the dirty goals in the frying pan, out muscled, out worked, and silenced the critics once again. The group really seems to be coming together. Each game, the mistakes of the past are disappearing.
There are dark clouds. There is a roaring. The Cyclones are now preparing to bring their wreckage and destruction to Northumberland. BE AFRAID!!!!
