Camp Objective:
There is an immediate need to introduce decision training and the academic side of the game to this age specific group. The OUA, CIS and today's National Team Athletes are skilled and intelligent. This camps objective is to introduce this age specific group to the academic side of the game that will allow them the opportunity to move forward. The 25 hours of practice using the TOP DOWN teaching theory will transfer the decision training process from the coach to the athlete while developing the athletes on ice skills.

Bill Bowker, Former Women's National Team coach and OUA Women’s Coach of the Year has designed the programming to ensure an immediate impact to this age specific group of female athletes. Bill Bowker will personally run the class through 5 hours of on ice instruction daily. Students will start on ice at 9:00 am until noon each day. During the 2 hour lunch break there will be seminars on educational options, Canada v/s USA, Nutrition and off season fitness training. After the Lunch break the girls will return to the ice for another 2 hours of instruction.

This camp will combine position-specific skill development and Scoring Skills instruction for both forwards and defense with individual instruction for the goaltenders. There will be a heavy emphasis on decision training and game situational drills that will allow the athlete to develop their read and react skills from player specific positions.

Bill Bowker will run National Team development drills with play in both the offensive zone, the neutral zone and specific defensive zone responsibility for the defense. Systems will be introduced to teach breakout theory and the importance of North / South speed & East / West puck movement on offensive zone entry.

Instructor to student ratio 6-1 maximum, Goaltenders will be 4-1.

The Katie Weatherston Hockey School provides the tools needed to improve skills and raise awareness of opportunities available to both girls and boys through sport. Founded in 2005, our goal is to offer players and goalies a well-organized, fun, and educational camp at an affordable cost. Our 4:1 player to coach ratio creates an optimal environment for development. At the end of the camp, each participant gets to select a PRIZE from our prize table to celebrate their hard work and their commitment to improving their game.  We also give out some of the following individual awards: Edge Award, Most Improved, Hardest Shot, Dirty Dangles, Sweetest Skater, or Off-ice Warrior.

We also put together a motivational video each week so players can see themselves in action and share their special memories with their families! The video also helps remind players of the proper techniques they need to continue to do to help bring their game to the next level.

On-Ice Instruction (3 hours / day):

Our camp focuses on teaching individual technique: Forwards/backwards stride, edges, shooting, stick handling, passing, checking, puck protection, skill stations
*Players will have a 4 to 1 player to coach ratio for optimal 1 on 1 instruction!
*Goalie's will have a goalie coach. There are only 3 goalie spots per ice session (3:1 Goalie to Coach ratio maximum)

Off-Ice Instruction (2.5 hours / day):

Stick handling, shooting, agility, strength, speed, balance, core, yoga, chalk talk, video, dynamic warm-up, plyometrics, skating imitations & slide board, resistance training, goal setting, nutrition mindfulness, deep breathing, circuit training, a motivational talk with Katie and pictures with her gold medals and the 2010 Olympic Torch!

*Camps focus on the fundamental skills of hockey and are open to all players who can skate at the level needed prior to starting hockey (must be able to skate and stop one way). We group players according to skill level and age. Each session is geared towards individual instruction and each player is coached/pushed to their individual skill level. The Off-ice sessions includes a majority of Katie's National Team's off-ice training program!

I would like to let you know that I offer Team Clinics. I run an hour practice. After practice, I give the girls a short motivational talk, a Q & A session, and I show the girls my Olympic Gold Medal, the Olympic Torch, and my diamond championship ring. The cost for this experience is $150. To book a clinic please email: katie@katieweatherston.com
